This episode needs no further summary then, “Gretchen is a heinous bitch. Go home now, please.” But I’ll give it a try. This week on Project Runway our designers were divided into two teams of six to create miniature fashion lines. Team captains were Michael C. and April, and what followed was a selection process that felt nearly as uncomfortable as watching a bunch of eighth graders pick dodge ball teams. Poor “elderly” Peach was left all alone as the last girl picked, but she played it cool. What resulted were two distinct teams: ‘Team Luxe’ (Cool kids: Michael C., Gretchen, AJ, Andy, Ivy and Christopher) and ‘Team Military and Lace’ (Fashion Rejects: Casanova, Michael D., Valerie, April, Peach and Mondo.) Team Luxe had a collective 4 challenge wins… the other team had zero. And, somehow, I could just tell this would lead to an underdog situation when the gigantic egos of Team Luxe collided.
And boy did they collide. Sergeant Gretchen commanded the troops like it was nobody’s business. Their line was “camel/menswear”. It ended up looking more like “ill-fitting tablecloths.” The other team’s line was “military/lace.” Overall I was unimpressed with both of them, but in the end the “losers” came up victorious. This let to a ridiculously uncomfortable deliberation where Gretchen not only contradicted herself but tried to deflect all blame to poor sweet Michael C. As Michael Kors said, it sure is easy to pick on the kid with immunity. This move almost got Wretch-en eliminated, but it was AJ who got the boot for his poorly constructed shirtdress. Casanova came out on top for the other team with his pretty lace ensemble. Overall, this episode felt like a train wreck, and I’m excited for these designers to fly solo once again. Perhaps Gretchen will fly all the way back to Oregon? A girl can dream, right?

I can’t say I hate her, because I’ve never met her, but she came across not only as an incompetent designer, but as a conniving team player. Sheesh, Michael C might be lacking a bit in technique, but he didn’t deserve that from his team. All makes for great entertainment though – I wish all these designers the best – they seem to be a talented group.
