Is Science Sexy? – A Lie To Me Op-ed by Kendra R.

Is truth the new aphrodisiac? How else to explain how Cal Lightman, lientologist extraordinaire, is able to bag women like Jennifer Beals and Melissa George? And we all know it’s just a matter of time before something happens with Dr. Foster…
Having been lied to by Wall Street, the government, and BP – maybe truth has also become a sought after trait in the dating pool. Jennifer Beals still sizzles years after Flashdance and Melissa George gave Sidney some competition on Alias and yet both these women are hot for a short social scientist with bad teeth? Yes, some close-ups were just not a good idea.
In this week’s episode the kitchen sex scene between Cal and Clara seemed borrowed directly from Fatal Attraction. I am not sure how I feel about this turn the show is taking. A part of me thinks society has gone so far off the rails that it could be a good thing to portray truth and intelligence as extremely attractive, but is the romance why I watch Lie to Me? No, that’s why I watch “Grey’s Anatomy.” I honestly don’t watch Grey’s for the medicine but the romance. I watch a show like “House” for the medicine and that’s similar to how I feel about “Lie To Me.” I watch “Lie to Me” for the science, and in the end isn’t the science sexy enough?
