Man, Woman, Wild: Jungle Lesson

October 2, 2010 in Drama, Features (BSWatch & Users), Shows You're Not Watching, Slide Show

Who knows what you’re gonna get when you have a husband and wife trapped in the rainforest. Well if you know anything about this couple, nothing is safe when it comes to their survival not even a harmless little turtle. But can you blame them? It’s the Amazon and just being able to sleep overnight is a HUGE deal. On Man, Woman, Wild, this two person team is determined to do just that and more. Husband Mykel, former Special Forces’ entire focus is to teach his wife Ruth, a TV journalist how to survive in the wild. The antics are to put it simple, hilarious. Think about it, it takes a very special person to be a special forces survival expert but when you combine that with a woman its just classic, constant randomness. Needless to say, the jungle lesson was a beautiful journey for the both of them.

Their first order of business was obviously shelter but he also wanted to find a stream of water which meant a clear passage to safety. Ruth is immediately hesitant walking through the forest for obvious reasons and she’s not too crazy about the abundance of wildlife so the antics immediately begin. Mykel is an amazing wealth of knowledge despite his wife’s apprehension to eating her newly found turtle friend and instead forces him to capture a Boa Constrictor for their meal which he later fails at teaching her how to capture herself. This uncanny partnership regardless of their many crazy survival experiences allows them to grow as a couple. He definitely understands her fears and even her quirks which all makes it hilarious because it is obviously annoys him yet she appreciates the knowledge he has and is often amazed at what he truly knows. Just like she’s never been in these situations, I’m sure he has never had to deal with a woman filled with emotions such as his wife but that doesn’t stop Mykel from continuing to be calm and positive for both their sake.

The events over the last couple of days from getting stuck in the mud to building a raft, only take them one step closer to  a successful survival and I know if I’m ever stuck in the Amazon (not) I got a couple of “rule of thumbs” under my belt. For instance, remove all undies, electric tape the bottom of your pants to prevent the critters from entering the nether region, and never get stuck in the Amazon because that’s all I remember. On the flip side, this show clearly shows working together is the key and regardless of Mykel’s background, he’s still just Hubby. All in all, the greatest thing about this episode was obviously the couple’s survival but most of all, that no turtles had to be harmed in the process.
