One of my favourite episodes so far, Hi focuses on both Alicia’s case, in which a husband is suspected on murdering the family babysitter and the other, Peter Florrick’s appeal. Given a 48 hour time frame, the lawyers must prove the husband is innocent, while also staying one step ahead of police. As they try to figure out if the husband actually did it, Kalinda (as always) manages to get the guy before the police do. Alicia protects Cary, who is tripping balls after assuming he has the day off, and Kalinda tries to protect Alicia from hearing too much in her husband’s appeal. During Peter Florrick’s appeal, Childs – the current state’s attorney steps into the prosecution to question Peter, as he testifies. He also subpoenas Kalinda to testify, resulting in some outmanoeuvring and Peter being granted a retrial. This episode was brilliant. I loved the fast pace of the first half, as the lawyers try to find the real murderer and get the husband off, tempered with the slow, steady pace that Chris Noth brings to Peter Florrick. I’m also really liking Christine Baranski as Diane, she brings maturity and wit to otherwise serious issues. Kalinda is, of course, a rock for all characters and Cary, well, who doesn’t like to see a bit of drug-misuse among gen-y characters every now and then? The script is well written, if a little rushed towards the end, and while slightly predictable, there are enough twists to keep you hanging until the writers choose to give bits away. A few red herrings, and a couple of teasers to keep you waiting til after the Vancouver Olympics never go astray.
