The best part about this week’s episode of True Blood was undoubtedly the characters’ sassy one-liners. The episode opens with Bill telling Sookie that she is a fairy. Her response is amazing: “how f-ing lame.” Sookie soon realizes it isn’t quite that lame, as she is most desirable to vampires. Here we have another touching Bill/Sookie love speech, in which Bill assures Sookie he loves her for reasons other than her blood. Isn’t that sweet?
Much of the episode focuses on Eric’s fear of meeting the true death at the hand of Russell Edgington. Expecting to die, Eric sets up a meeting with a lawyer to leave his entire estate to Pam, who seems completely uninterested. Here we have another genius line, my favorite of the episode. Pam enters the room as Sookie and Eric are making out, which is amazing by the way, and announces: “blah blah vampire emergency blah.” I love Pam’s sassy character, and Eric says it best when he tells her that her lack of sentiment is her most endearing quality.
Jason finally confesses to Tara this week that he is the one who killed Eggs. Poor Tara can’t catch a break; she gets super emotional yet again, and takes off speechless. I miss old Tara, the feisty girl without emotions. Nevertheless, girl has been through some pretty rough situations lately, and they don’t seem to be letting up. Speaking of emotional, Hoyt confesses his love to Jessica, and she shoots him down. Poor Hoyt has his feelings hurt, then leaves Merlotte’s and gets attacked by Tommy the pit bull. In an act of true love, Jessica gives Hoyt her blood to heal him, just as Bill healed Sookie way back in season one. I smell an inevitable everlasting romance, but we’ll see.
In general, this week’s episode didn’t really bring the thrills. Considering all the major developments (Crystal is a werepanther, Arlene confesses her true baby-daddy, Eric takes Sookie hostage), the episode overall didn’t keep me on the edge of my seat. However, this week seemed to bring some of the best acting that True Blood has seen. Russell Edgington (Denis O’Hare) continued to demonstrate incredible acting abilities this week, as he mourned and killed a Talbot replacement. Even Sookie and Jason (Anna Paquin and Ryan Kwanten) displayed great character development and performances. Regardless of a lackluster episode in the thrills department, it has definitely laid out a pretty solid foundation for next week.
